Goethe examinations are well known throughout the world and the associated certificates are accepted as a qualification by employers and further education institutions in many countries. The Goethe's German language examinations correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and range from A1 for beginners to C2 for language skills at the highest level.

In some countries, Goethe-Zertifikat B2 and C1 level mean that you do not have to take an exam in German to complete your advanced secondary education. At many universities in the EU, proof of a Goethe certificate in the corresponding subject also earns students useful extra credit points.
